Quick thoughts on true detective

"Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and The Sopranos get a lot of credit for being TV “novels,” but True Detective takes the literary television vibe to another level. With an inaugural season of only eight episodes, the saga of Marty, Rust, and the case that both destroyed and saved them unfolded like a flower in slow-motion bloom and removed any lingering doubt that Matthew McConaughey has evolved well past Wooderson from Dazed and Confused. Filmed in the thick of Southern gothic splendor and decay in the Louisiana countryside, True Detective may not be the first series to transform crime scenes into art exhibits, but it's inarguably one of the most skilled at doing so." -  MaryAnn
